I did try reverting back to a previous state using a restore point & restoring the same from the Win7 repair menu item of the Win7 CD. I know there are several things I could try to fix this mess, but I'm afraid to try some of these for fear that I may make things worse. Evidently, the 'recovered' Windows was picked up from the HDD that I'd replaced earlier.

When booting this way though, I have to select which Windows to load from a menu. Each time though, I'd get the same ' can't boot' error.Īfter several hair pulling re-booting sessions, I finally tried re-booting with the CD in the drive without actually booting from it. I did the repair procedure several times. I thought, no problem, I'll do a system repair from the Win7 CD as I had done successfully in the past. (If need be, I can reboot from the CD to find out). Upon boot-up, Widows tells me it can't boot anymore.

Of course, the PC was shut down when I swapped out all the SATA cables. I didn't think this would make any difference & I still can't understand why it does, but it did. When the new cables came in, I replaced the old cables with the new ones that I'd ordered online. When I added the 3 HDDs, I used the SATA cables that I already had, but I eventually replaced all of them, including the SSD's cable. At this point, this seems irrelevant, but it does come into play later on. It had a 'recovered' Win7 installation that I'd forgotten about. Well, I accidentally ruined one of the HDDs, but I was able to replace it with another used one that I already had. To me, the best & easiest way to ensure the SSD was the boot drive, was to make the SSD the sole drive in the system, agreed?Īnyway, no problems yet, everything went well. I opted to go this method as I wanted to ensure the SSD was the boot drive. I thought since I already had these drives, might as well use them, so I did. This addition made a total of 4 HDDs on my PC. Just before then, I added 3 mechanical HDDs to my PC. Oh yeah, a few days later, I did load the correct nVidea video driver. So far so good, I only had one driver to D/L & install (the LAN driver). The short story: Windows won't boot without the Win CD.Ī couple of weeks ago, I did a fresh installation of Win 7 Pro (64 bit) on my Kingston 120 gb SSD.
